Transportation Assistant
Job Goal(s): To provide assistance to students during transport to & from school programs, up to 60 minutes at a time. Assistance includes establishing and maintaining a positive rapport & behavioral calm, and the ability to use de-escalation strategies if needed.
Qualifications
- Previous training in de-escalation or the ability to successfully complete training upon hire.
- Ability to ride in large vehicles for long distances.
Certifications
- Must hold or be eligible to hold a Maine DOE CHRC - Background Check
- Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) & SafetyCare Certification
- The district will support training and certification for eligible candidates
Performance Responsibilities
- Be a member of the transportation team for students attending special purpose private schools in the morning and afternoon shifts.
- Provides safety, supervision, and assistance to students with disabilities when in transport
- Attends training & staff development as required
- Establish and model positive rapport with students, staff, and parents.
Education
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED
Experience
- Preferred, but will provide training for the right candidate
Working Schedule: Part-Time - Eligible for Full-Time
- 7-9 am and 1-3:30 pm Monday - Thursday
- 7-9 am and 11:30-1:30 pm on Friday.
- Starting at 22 hrs per week
- Additional hours may be available to the right candidate
Travel Requirements
- additional travel may be required in the district
Reports To: Director of Special Education or their designee
Terms of Employment: As determined annually by the District.
Evaluation: Completed annually by the Director of Special Education
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
